Introduction

Because of the pandemic, Abbott wanted to transition their manual software update process to a digital platform where technicians could update accounts remotely. We were tasked with creating the interface and rigorously testing it to ensure efficiency.

The Challenge

The manual software updating process severely impacted technician efficiency with the number of accounts per employee, outdated contact information, time-consuming processes, and pandemic restrictions. This, in turn, lead to poor time management and an increased number of errors. On top of all that, we had to consider several factors with the digital transition, including client databases, imports, lab machine statuses, and scheduling updates. We had to think strategically about consolidating all those flows into one easy-to-use platform.

The 
Solution

CreateApe conducted more than 100 interviews with Abbott’s internal stakeholders and field technicians to get some information about the current process. Over two months, we discovered that the lack of documentation and inefficient communication were leading to slow execution and poor client satisfaction. After gathering information about the target user’s goals and frustrations, we began strategizing the information architecture & user flows of the web portal. Since it was the first time Abbott’s software update process went digital, we demonstrated prototypes to stakeholders before creating the visuals.
Research
Using qualitative and quantitative data gathered from interviews, we constructed user personas to outline user personalities, frustrations, and potential hoots.

Our prototypes helped stakeholders visualize each user journey. Once the flows were approved, all that was left to do was enhance the designs with Abbott’s branding.
